I LOVE this horse! More and more I fall in love with him. Hes a total gem and really makes me so happy when I work with him. He just has a great mind and really tries for you. He throws in some sassiness from time to time, but all of it is mild. He has spooked and bolted a couple times but stops before getting in even 3 canter steps. His canter, although awkward (hes is a green baby after all!) is so consistent. Yes, CONSISTENT. Who can say that about their 4 yo that has only cantered 6 times over a two year period?!?!?!? He is so relaxed at the canter too. He is starting to step out more at the trot and really stretch. I started jumping him over single fences and he has now jumped three times. The first two times were just over a very small crossrail two or three times. Yesterday he went over that crossrail in just a canter stride so I raised it until it was about a foot and a half in the center. He took Lucie, who was riding him, right to it without a care. I decided to set up a vertical, his first one, and he was so precious going over it! He trotted up energetically, went over with beautiful legs for a baby, and cantered off so easily. He amazes me all the time. I couldnt be happier with him. I am having a new local trainer work him during the month of November for me since I'll be busy. Were buying a new house and I know I'm just not going to have time. I really like her, Josie Howard, and she adored Leo when she came to meet him. She will work on the basics with him, minimal stress work, and hopefully after a month he will get nice and solid in his flat work and then ill give him a good bit of the winter off from riding and really focus on getting him ready for some small shows next year. Maybe dressage and hunters. Time will tell. Heres a photo of Leo jumping his vertical. His adorableness is just too much!!!! And a photo of him waiting patiently by the gate for me to go catch Sophie. Leo comes galloping when I go to the field and whistle and then stands while I track down my mare who clearly doesnt love me as much. haha!
